The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University (Kelley) offers these departments and concentrations: accounting, consulting, entrepreneurship, finance, general management, health care administration, marketing, and supply chain management/logistics. Its tuition is full-time: $27,865 per year (in-state); full-time: $51,454 per year (out-of-state); part-time: $23,085 per year (in-state); and part-time: $39,339 per year (out-of-state). At graduation, 75.80 percent of graduates of the full-time program are employed.

Integration is the focus of business programs at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. The goal during the first semester of the full-time M.B.A. program is to weave together every business discipline to broaden the students’ perspectives on business. Leadership is a theme that is prevalent within the school, and this theme is implemented during the first semester when students are placed into teams of four and must work together to complete projects. The Kelley Leadership Speakers Series brings influential leaders and business executives to campus to discuss a myriad of topics with students.

Along with the full-time M.B.A., students can also pursue an online M.B.A. or a Ph.D. or can complete a specialized master’s degree in information systems or accounting. Joint degrees are offered in conjunction with the Maurer School of Law, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Telecommunications.

Students of the Kelley School of Business gain much of their career guidance through experiential learning, such as Bloomington Brands, which immerses the students in real-world business problems in the classroom to prepare for life outside of the school. Through Kelley Academies, students partner with a professor who is an expert in their career area and can guide them through post-graduate decisions. There are also roughly 18 clubs and 20 committees for Kelley students to participate in on campus.

Alumni of the Kelley School include John Chambers, president and CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc.; Harold Arthur Poling, former president and CEO of Ford Motor Co.; and Jimmy Wales, cofounder of Wikipedia.

Factors and Procedures Used in Admissions

Full-time MBA program

The full-time program Admissions team looks for candidates who demonstrate the potential for academic excellence and a promising career. One's past academic record and test scores help us confirm their ability to be a successful student. We consider an applicant's professional accomplishments and impact to assess their management and leadership potential. Kelley has a culture of collaboration, recognizing that successful leaders are also successful team members. Through an applicant's past experiences they should demonstrate that they understand both what it takes to lead and how to work well with others.

Curricula Descriptions

Full-time program

The 1st semester emphasizes critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving with courses in all of the traditional areas. Each student joins an experiential, career-focused Academy which acts as a bridge between coursework and career. The remaining curriculum is about building capacities in a variety of functional areas, along with leadership and professional development. Highlights include various student-led global consulting projects.

Executive program N/A
Part-time program

The Kelley Evening MBA program can be completed in 24 months. Students gain quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills in the first four quarters by taking a group of CORE and required courses. The curriculum also strongly emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and professional development. Students take electives to major in the areas of Management and Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain and Operations. Enterprises and capstones offer projects in areas of international small business consulting, entrepreneurship, finance, and supply chain management.

Part-time distance learning program

Every student in our 54 credit online MBA program is unique, so we offer a curriculum that is highly customizable. Core knowledge is delivered through three integrated course sets focusing on business foundations, key business functions, and an exploration of the future of business. Students then develop deep specialization through elective coursework within one of seven majors. Even while participating online from across the globe, students feel connected to one another and supported by faculty during required weekly live online classes. Students typically take two years to complete the program taking the integrated core courses (24 credits) interspersed within business fundamentals (6 credits) and elective courses (18 credits) plus coursework in global perspectives (3 credits). Networking is a key component of the program, particularly during each of two Kelley Connect Weeks (3 credits), our immersive week-long residencies. These two residencies give students the opportunity to solve live business cases, not simulations. This intense experience fosters deep connections as students put their learning to work assisting real-world clients with real-world challenges. Kelley Direct students further benefit from renowned Kelley School of Business faculty, one-on-one career coaching, and global and domestic consulting and cultural opportunities integrated within our curriculum.

The Maurer School of Law at Indiana University--Bloomington (Maurer) has an application deadline of July 15. The full-time program application fee at the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University--Bloomington (Maurer) is $50. Its tuition is full-time: $37,731 (in-state) and full-time: $58,406 (out-of-state). The student-faculty ratio is 7:1.

Indiana University—Bloomington Maurer School of Law uses a team-based curriculum for first year students, which includes a unique course on ethical and economic issues in the legal profession. After their first year, Indiana Law students can focus their education in a variety of areas, including intellectual property law and environmental law, though choosing a specific area of focus is not mandatory. Students interested in another academic discipline can also complete dual degree programs, such as a J.D./M.B.A through the IU Kelley School of Business.

For hands-on legal experience, Indiana Law students can take part in about 10 school clinics, including the Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic, which helps clients start sustainable businesses, and the Inmate Legal Assistance Project, which takes place in a federal prison in Terre Haute, Ind. In addition, IU Bloomington has several research centers, including the Center on the Global Legal Profession and the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research—all of which offer opportunities for student involvement. The law school has three law journals: the Indiana Law Journal; the Federal Communications Law Journal, the oldest and largest journal on the subject in the country; and the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.

Notable alumni of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law include Michael Maurer, who founded the National Bank of Indianapolis and for whom the law school was renamed after he donated $35 million for law school scholarships, and Pamela Jones Harbour, former commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission.

Career Services

Career services operations

Career planning begins with 1L legal profession course, where students identify strengths and interests and alumni share their experiences; employer visits to Washington, DC, Indianapolis, Chicago; alumni events across the country. Students participate in job fairs and on-location recruiting events in Indianapolis, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC, and other major cities.

The education school at Indiana University--Bloomington has an application deadline of Jan. 15. The application fee for the education program at Indiana University--Bloomington is $70. Its tuition is full-time: $437 per credit (in-state); full-time: $1,515 per credit (out-of-state); part-time: $437 per credit (in-state); and part-time: $1,515 per credit (out-of-state). The Indiana University--Bloomington graduate education program has 89 full-time faculty on staff with a 3.6:1 ratio of full-time equivalent doctoral students to full-time faculty.

At the Indiana University—Bloomington School of Education, graduate programs are based on the Advanced Conceptual Framework. Under this plan, graduate and professional students are instructed to bolster their comprehensive knowledge base, develop intellectual skills, emphasize diversity and community, and grow personally and professionally.

There are many master’s, Ph.D., and certificate programs at the IU-Bloomington School of Education for future educators, administrators, counselors, and school psychologists. For graduate students pursuing Peace Corps service, there is a Master’s International program that incorporates two years in the Peace Corps with a graduate degree, with an emphasis on teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language. There is also a Transition to Teaching (T-to-T) program that grants K-12 education degrees to adults who have pursued a different career.

There are about 10 research centers and institutes at the school, including the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy and the Center for Human Growth. Students can also get involved in outreach initiatives, such as the Saturday Art School Program and the Saturday Science Quest for Kids, and several student organizations including Project TEAM, which readies educators to work in culturally diverse schools, and the Indiana Student Education Association. Students can live on campus in Bloomington if they wish.

Alumni of the IU-Bloomington School of Education have gone on to win Indiana Teacher of the Year recognitions, among other awards.
