Postdoctoral Position Available in Gene Regulation and Circadian Clocks


A Postdoctoral training position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Yi Liu,Department of Physiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. One focus of ourresearch is to investigate the role and mechanism of synonymous codon usage inregulating gene expression and protein structure (Zhou et al., 2013 Nature; Xu et al.,2013 Nature; Yu et al., 2015 Molecular Cell; Zhou et al., 2016 PNAS & 2018 Elife; Fu etal., 2017 Genes & Dev). The other focus is to study the molecular and biochemicalmechanism of circadian clocks (Liu et al., 2017 Molecular Cell). Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree. Strong background in molecular biology orbiochemistry is required. Experience in genomics and bioinformatics is not required butis preferred.

Dr. Sun will join St. Jude Sept. 2019 as an assistant member, and his laboratory will focus on the structure and function of important membrane proteins and protein complexes. The Channing Division of Network Medicine (CDNM) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS) is looking for exceptional postdoctoral fellowship candidates to join Professor Yang-Yu Liu’s group to advance human microbiome research.


The successful applicants should have a Ph.D. and are expected to have a strong background in one or more of the following fields: metagenomics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, machine learning and computational biology. Excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and extensive computer programming experience with large microbiome datasets are essential. Experience with other large-scale Omics datasets is a plus. The research will be done under the mentorship of Professor Yang-Yu Liu, with opportunities for collaboration with other faculty at CDNM who have expertise in statistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, and genomics of complex human diseases.


BWH is a Harvard Medical School affiliated institution, with over 1000 principal investigators.  CDNM is one of the largest research divisions within the Department of Medicine at BWH. The goal of CDNM is to define the etiology and reclassify complex disease using network- and systems-based approaches. CDNM has some of the largest population-based cohorts in the world, and an outstanding track record of mentoring. For example, CDNM is the home of the ongoing Nurses’ Health Study, with decades of follow-up and repeated detailed information on diet and lifestyle from 280,000 women. From this and many other cohorts, CDNM has DNA samples from more than 200,000 individuals, and microbiome samples from more than 25,000 individuals. CDNM also has extensive computer resources.
